Universal approach to predicting heat transfer coefficient for condensing mini/micro-channel flow

چکیده
A new universal approach to predicting the condensation heat transfer coefficient for mini/micro-channel flows is proposed that is capable of tackling many fluids with drastically different thermophysical properties and very broad ranges of all geometrical and flow parameters of practical interest. This is accomplished by first amassing a consolidated database consisting of 4045 data points from 28 sources. The database consists of single-channel and multi-channel data, 17 different working fluids, hydraulic diameters from 0.424 to 6.22 mm, mass velocities from 53 to 1403 kg/m s, liquid-only Reynolds numbers from 276 to 89,798, qualities from 0 to 1, and reduced pressures from 0.04 to 0.91. An exhaustive assessment of prior correlations shows only two correlations, that are actually intended for macro-channels, provide relatively fair predictions, while mini/micro-channel correlations generally show poor predictions. Two new correlations are proposed, one for predominantly annular flows, and the second for slug and bubbly flows. This approach shows very good predictions of the entire consolidated database, with an overall MAE of 16.0%. It is shown this accuracy is fairly even for different working fluids, and over broad ranges of hydraulic diameter, mass velocity, quality and pressure, and for both single and multiple mini/ micro-channels. 2012 Elsevier Ltd. Flow condensation in parallel micro-channels – Part 2: Heat transfer results and correlation technique
This second part of a two-part study concerns heat transfer characteristics for FC-72 condensing along parallel, square micro-channels with a hydraulic diameter of 1 mm, which were formed in the top surface of a solid copper plate. Heat from the condensing flow was rejected to a counter flow of water through channels brazed to the underside of the copper plate. The FC-72 condensation heat trans...

متن کاملUniversal approach to predicting two-phase frictional pressure drop for adiabatic and condensing mini/micro-channel flows
Previous models and correlations for the prediction of pressure drop in adiabatic and condensing mini/ micro-channel flows have been validated for only a few working fluids and relatively narrow ranges of relevant parameters. A universal predictive approach for these flows must be capable of tackling many fluids with drastically different thermophysical properties and very broad ranges of all g...
متن کاملUniversal approach to predicting saturated flow boiling heat transfer in mini/micro-channels – Part I. Dryout incipience quality
This two-part study concerns the development of a generalized approach to predicting both Nucleate Boiling dominated and Convective Boiling dominated heat transfer in mini/micro-channel flows. Both heat transfer regimes exhibit substantial reduction in the heat transfer coefficient at the location of partial annular liquid film dryout, hence the need to ascertain the occurrence of this importan...

This second part of a two-part study examines the prediction of saturated flow boiling heat transfer in mini/micro-channels. The first part culminated in a technique for determining the dryout incipience quality corresponding to substantial deterioration in the heat transfer coefficient. In this part, a consolidated database for flow boiling in mini/micro-channels is amassed from 31 sources, of...
